returning of the Manhwa

Hi Guys!

We’re still in the middle of our break, but we have some exciting news to share. The Manhwa/webtoon of NorthxNorthwest is returning! And very soon too! A well informed instagram account reported that the raws will be returning the 26th of February! 🙂

We’re soooo excited that the story continues and we’ll be able to see some great scenes come to life; such as the beach scene (piggyback riding on Ed) and the underwater scene with Bellus.

Seeing that the webtoon comes back, we feel the need to put up a small disclaimer. To explain this disclaimer to you guys, we first need to explain what happened with the webnovel and webtoon;

Season 1 of the webtoon ended on 2021.07.04 (raws) and 2021.11.14 (official translation from Manta). Season 2 was never released. Around October 2021 Ridibooks deleted the novel from their site. The reason for this was due to the rewriting of the story by the author. Before, the novel was rated R19 and after the rewriting the novel is rated R15. We don’t know if this was an initiative from the author or if they were asked to do this, but the idea behind this was to make the story more suitable for younger readers. Season 2 of the webtoon was never made because they were probably waiting for the new book. Ridibook released the new R15 novel on 2022.12.01, we figured that was also the starting point for the artist to resume their work on the webtoon. Bottom line is; The webtoon will follow the R15 novel instead of the older R19 one.

This is also what the first part of our disclaimer is about. The story we translate is the R19 version of the novel, so from the moment the webtoon resumes, there can be differences between our story and theirs. We do think that the differences will be small, scenes like the Lully story or the brutal attack on the Ruwa tribe will probably be omitted or nuanced. But we don’t know in what way the story is altered to make it R15. For the people who are interested, we place a comparison below the announcement. This is the first smutty kind of scene in the book, way back in Volume 1. As you can see, the smut is completely omitted.

The second part is about new facts or names that will resurface. In the beginning we could use the names from the webtoon, after that we used names based on our own translation. So names as Bellus, Marusha, Glock Retiro, Valtano, Serlio, Hangyang Islands, Towny Leden etc, basically all names, places and ships named after the hiatus of the webtoon can be different from here on out. For now we decided to not change them, it will be too much of a hassle to revise all the chapters. We’ll carefully examine each case when the time comes, but it can be expected that most of the time we will go with our own version. Something we will change are facts we translated wrongly that are crucial for the plot. But again time will tell if that’s needed.

So, that’s all folks. It seems like a lot, but in the end we’re just super excited that the webtoon comes back so we can continue enjoying the novel and the webtoon! 🙂
